Washington and Jefferson 83, Thiel 71

GREENVILLE, Pa. — The Washington & Jefferson College men's basketball team claimed an 83-71 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Thiel College Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Gymnasium in Greenville.

Jon Koch had a game-high 38 points to go along with five rebounds to lead the Presidents (6-12, 4-1). Brandon Studer finished with 15 points and four assists while Josip Lucic-Jozak added 12 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

Junior forward Geno Bianco was the lone Tomcat to get into double figures, finishing with career highs in both points (21) and rebounds (9) for Thiel (2-15, 0-5). Senior forward Stephen Laird added eight points while senior forward Damien Williams, junior forward Brad Bowman and freshman guard Andre Jones each finished with seven.

Up five (17-12) with just under 12 minutes to go in the first, W&J put together a 16-4 run to extend their lead to 17 (33-16) with 5:30 in the opening half. The Presidents went into the half with a 47-30 lead.

Thiel was able to cut the W&J lead to 14 (61-47) with 10:48 remaining in the contest, but the Presidents used an 18-7 run to psh their second-half lead to 25 (79-54) with 4:36 remaining before going on to record the 12-point conference win.

Thiel finished with a 45-43 advantage on the glass and had a season-high 11 blocks as a team.

The Tomcats will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 25 when they host PAC rival Bethany College. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
