After the Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead, Piedmont rallied with their own 9-0 run to even out the score. Piedmont again shot poorly from the field in the first half netting only 24% of their field goals as Fisk carried a 36-28 advantage into the locker rooms.
The Lions would again rally to erase a 12-point deficit and tie the game up at 52 apiece with 13:00 remaining. The Lions would take their first lead of the game, 67-65, on a Jake Baldwin layup with only 6:13 remaining. From there the lead would change hands four times with an offensive rebound and putback by Brent Walker with 11 seconds remaining giving the Lions a three-point advantage and setting up Shivers' last-second heroics.
Fisk would never trail in the extra period with the game's sixth and final tie (81-81) coming with 2:30 remaining.
Kyle Kemmerer came off the bench for Piedmont to lead all scorers with a game-high 17 points while Walker recorded his seventh double-figure rebounding effort with a game-high 11 rebounds to round out his fourth double-double of the season.
The loss drops the Lions to 9-7 overall and 1-3 in the Great South Athletic Conference. Piedmont returns to action on Tuesday, January 24th with a short road trip to local rival Toccoa Falls College with game time set for 7:00 PM in Toccoa, GA.
