Hope 69, Albion 50

HOLLAND, Mich. — Albion College fell behind by double digits in the first nine minutes of the game, and despite pulling within three early in the second half, the Britons were never able to recover in a 69-50 loss to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Hope College.

After Jordyn Boles scored a jumper to put Hope in front 18-6, Albion scored the next eight points. Senior forward Liz Marcuz knocked down a jumper and junior guard Jessica Babcock buried a pair of 3-point goals as the Britons trailed 18-14 with 5 ½ minutes left in the first half. A 3-point goal by guard Megan Seely pulled Albion within three, 23-20, with 2:31 remaining in the first half.

Hope held a 30-21 lead at halftime.

Senior guard Kellyn Glynn and Seely each connected from behind the arc at the beginning of the second half as Albion again trailed by three, 30-27, with 18:48 left in regulation.

Hope scored the next six points and Albion never threatened again. Boles’ jumper gave the Flying Dutch a 41-31 lead with 15 minutes left.

Babcock was Albion’s leading scorer with 11 points. First-year guard Stacey Smith came off the bench to score a career-high nine points.

Boles scored 22 points for Hope (16-1 overall, 9-0 MIAA).

Albion (12-6 overall, 4-5 MIAA) will return home Wednesday night for a MIAA contest against Olivet College at 7:30 p.m.
