In the women's game, Ferrum (6-8, 2-2 USA South) had three players in double digit scoring. Aline Alzime led all scorers with 25 points, and added 13 rebounds and six steals.
Quanita Bennett and Charde Evans added 11 and 12 points, respectively.
Christopher Newport (8-7, 2-2) headed into the locker room with a 39-33 lead. CNU was led by Candace Bryant, who tallied 17 points for the Captains. Nikki Rowland added 15 points and Samantha Davis had 14.
In the men's game, junior Keith Harris and freshman Trey Ray had 14 points each to lead Ferrum (4-13, 0-4). Sophomore Quinton Chilton added 11 points in the loss. The Panthers led by as many as 11 points midway through the first half, and held a slim 35-33 lead at the break.
Christopher Newport (11-5, 2-1) was led by Donta Selden and Jeremy Romeo, who each had 15 points, and Korey Lewis with 13 points. Selden also dished out eight assists.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow with another USA South doubleheader, this time against Shenandoah University. The women's game begins at 2 p.m., with the men slated to tip off at 4 p.m. in Ferrum.
CNU will play a USA South doubleheader at Averett University in Danville tomorrow at 2 and 4 p.m.
