Eastern 103, Immaculata 83

ST DAVIDS, Pa. — After a nip and tuck first meeting between the Immaculata Mighty Macs and the Eastern University Eagles last November resulted in a one point Eastern win, the Eagles entered this afternoon's contest focused on executing and finding good shots. The Eagles shot a a solid 56% from the field including 48% from behind the arc to pull away to a 103-83 home win.
The Eagles jumped to a 17-9 advantage four minutes into the game. Bobby Black hit for eight points in the opening burst as Eastern registered six assists on their first seven baskets of the game. A three point play from the Macs' Julius Lopez stopped the Eagle momentum before a trio of three point baskets from Black, David Volpe, and Mike Johnson, bumped the Eagle advantage to 27-12.
Eastern after trading baskets for a bit, the Eagles bumped up the lead more after a Ben Easley three pointer and a steal and thunderous dunk from Black. The Eagles scored the final five points of the half on a basket from McMonagle and a three from DiMaria.
DiMaria and Black led the Eagles into half with 12 and 11 points respectively, while Kyle Finklea scored 11 for the visitors. In a telling statistic, the Eagles picked up 19 field goals with 16 first half assists. Six different players hit first half three point shots as Eastern went nine for 20 from behind the arc.
After an 8-0 Immaculata run to start the half, Brent Williams entered the line up for the Eagles to begin to run the point and change the momentum of the game. The 5'7" guard helped the Eagles to push their lead back to 71-48 as Eastern continued to find open cutters going to the basket and shooters with their feet set. The hosts held their advantage at or above the 20 minute mark as they answered every run the Mighty Macs made with a basket or series of baskets.
Immaculata made their runs via the free throw line as they attempted 21 second half free throws to the Eagles six. The Eagles were, however, able to improve on their first half shooting as they shot 62% from the floor including five of nine from behind the arc. For the game, Eastern had eight different players hit three point baskets and picked up a team record 35 assists on 40 field goals. Six Eagles, led by Black's 19 and Matt Flanagan's 15 hit double figures. Finklea's game high 28 paced four Mighty Macs in double figures for the game.
Eastern (11-5, 6-3) returns to action Monday with a trip to Wesley for a game with PAC playoff implications.
