Cornell 60, Luther 57

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa — Two made free throws by freshman Griffin LaDew with 50 second remaining ended the game’s scoring and gave Cornell a 60-57 victory over Luther on Jan. 21 in Mount Vernon. The win ended a 10-game Iowa Conference losing skid for the Rams, who held their breath as Luther missed five shots in the final 30 seconds.

Cornell improved to 2-13 overall, 1-5 in the IIAC. Luther fell to 9-8, 3-5. LaDew and Cornell senior Jeff Ecker shared game-high scoring honors with 15. Ram senior Cameron Wendt scored nine points with a game-high eight rebounds. Cornell shot 52 percent from the field in the second half (13 of 25) and overcame a two-point halftime deficit (30-28). Luther led by 11 points (45-34) with 11-minutes, 53-seconds remaining and eight points (51-43) with just over 6 ½ minutes to play. LaDew scored 11 points in the second half and Ecker added nine.

ake Lappe scored 14 points for the Norse and Andy Rump tossed in 10 points. Josh Johnson scored eight points with seven rebounds and three steals.
