The Cazenovia men’s team fell behind 30-47 in the first stanza in it’s game with Keystone. The visiting Giants preceded to put away the home team with superior rebounding and evenly distributed scoring. With the 65-92 loss the Wildcats move to 3-13 on the season and 2-5 in NEAC play. The Giants move to 11-4 on the year and 6-0 in conference play.
Three Giants finished in double-figures. Andre Stone led all scorers with 21 points on the day. Robert Cash finished the game with 17 rebounds and 14 points to record a double-double. Darnell Reed finished with 11 points, five rebounds and a team-high five assists.
For the Wildcats, five players finished in double-figures. Stephen Harris (’09, Watervliet / Watervliet HS) finished with a ten-point day, Steven Zavackis (’07, Carthage / Carthage HS) finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds to record his third double-double of the season, Joshua Winans (’07, Afton / Afton HS) finished with 14 points and eight assists and Chris Gyder (Clay / Cicero-North Syracuse), off the bench, recorded ten points.
Starting in just his second game of the season, Cazenovia guard, Erik Sauer (’09, Pennellville / Phoenix HS), finished with a career-high and team-high 15 points in 27 minutes of action. Sauer also grabbed three rebounds in the game.
The Giants shot an impressive 54 percent in the first half and finished the game 39-for-84 (46 percent) from the field. The Giants’ shooting percentage was bolstered by frequent second-chance opportunities. Cazenovia was out-rebounded by the Giants 34-55.
The Cazenovia women’s squad fought for a gritty win against Keystone in the second game of the double-header. Earning the 58-50 victory, the Wildcats move to 4-11 on the year and are now 3-4 in NEAC play. The troubled Keystone squad, who played only seven deep, falls to 3-11 on the year and 1-5 in NEAC play.
The Wildcats played nip-and-tuck with the Giants throughout the game. Over the course of the competition there were 13 lead changes or ties.
Kerry Fallon led the way for a resilient Keystone team. Fallon led all scorers with 24 points and also finished with a team-high six assists. Fallon, who played all but one minute of the game, was 9-for-19 from the field and 5-for-11 from three-point land.
Scoring was distributed evenly amongst the Wildcats. Ashley Lewis (’07, Whitesboro / Whitesboro HS), who has been the Wildcat’s leading scorer in every one of its wins this season, finished with a team-high 13 points. Her two most important points of the game came in the final four seconds as she drew an intentional foul from Keystone’s Jessica Kobesky and converted on back-to-back free-throws to seal the win.
Kate Lincoln (’08, Waterloo / Waterloo HS) finished with an impressive all-around effort on the day. Lincoln, who finished with seven steals, eight points, six rebounds and seven assists, was 3-for-8 from the field and 2-for-2 from the line.
Keystone missed 15 free-throws in the game. The giants were just 1-for-6 from the line in the final 2:45.
The Cazenovia bench outscored the Keystone bench 15-5 in the game.
The Wildcats are next in action on Tues., Jan. 24. The men’s and women’s squads face off at Bard College in Annondale-on-Hudson, at 8:00 PM and 6:00 PM, respectively.
