BROCKPORT, NY — Senior Ben Bellucci hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to lead the SUNY Brockport Men’s Basketball Team to a 98-95 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over SUNYIT Saturday night in Tuttle North Gym in Brockport.

Brockport (8-7, 4-2 SUNYAC) led by just two points with 1:33 left in the game but a strong layup by John Rother and Bellucci and Josh Zenkel combined for 6-of-8 free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory.

Bellucci finished with 27 points and also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and had six assists. He was 10-for-14 from the free throw line in the game. Dan Rubertone added 20 points, Kenny Amparo had 19 points and Rother finished with 13.

The Golden Eagles (8-7, 4-2 SUNYAC) hit a sizzling 56 percent of their shots from the field in the second half and finished the game with a 52.5 shooting percent. The Wildcats attempted 31 3-pointers and connected on 11 to keep the game close in the second half.

Brockport had its largest lead in the first half with an 11-point margin but SUNYIT cut the lead to five at the half. Brockport’s largest lead was seven points early in the second half. The game was tied nine times and there were 11 lead changes in the back-and-forth battle.
