NEW HAVEN, CT — AMC RUNS OUT OF GAS

For the second straight home game the Falcons gave up a halftime lead to an early second half run to drop another GNAC game as Johnson & Wales used a 20-4 run to open the second half to eventually win the game 73-67 in New Haven on Saturday. Down 37-29 at halftime the Wildcats opened the second half much more lively as the Falcons seemed to be still in the locker room. The 20-4 run was highlighted by a steal and dunk by Connor Moran. The lead would grow to 14 at 65-51 with seven minutes to play. A lay up by Bill Rose (Jr., Guilford, CT) with 42 seconds to play would cut the lead to five at 69-64. After a Japhet Kerr missed a free throw the Falcons came down the court and Bobby Leonzo (Fr., East Haven, CT) hit a three to make the score 71-67 but it would be too little too late for the Falcons. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Brian Bannister with 19 points as the Wildcats shot 60 percent on the second half. Leading the way for the Falcons, who shot 29 percent in the second half, was Victor Purnell (Sr., L.A. California) with 18 points while Bill Rose scored 13 points with 9 rebounds. The win makes the Wildcats 5-9 and 3-4 in the GNAC while the loss drops the Falcons to 1-12 and 1-7 in the GNAC. The Falcons travel to Boston on Tuesday night to take on Emerson with tip-off at 7:00.
