Rochester 69, Emory 46

ROCHESTER, NY — Mike Goia and Jeff Juron combined for 27 points and some pinpoint shooting to lead the University of Rochester to a 69-46 victory over Emory at the Palestra.

The Yellowjackets (2-2 University Athletic Association, 11-4 overall) shot 59.3% from the floor overall. Juron his 6 of 7 field goals, Goia 7 of 10. Jon Onyiriuka had 8 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, a block, and two steals. Eric Snider scored 6 points, have five rebounds, three assists, and one block in his first varsity start.

Alex Ford-Carther led Emory (1-3, 8-7) with 19 points. Spiros Ferderigos scored 13, but hit just 4 of 15 from the floor.

The Yellowjackets got it done at the defensive end of the floor as well. Emory hit 26% from the floor, 23 percent in the first 20 minutes. Rochester out-rebounded the Eagles, 39-31 overall, 30-16 off Emory's glass.

Rochester went on a 14-2 surge midway through the first half to take a 20-9 lead. Juron scored five of the 14. It was 35-19 at halftime.

The Eagles chipped it down to 12 on a layup and free throw by Ford-Carther with 10:29 left (50-38). Juron fed Snider for a layup, then hit a jumpshot to restore the lead to 16, 54-38. When Emory charged again, Michael Chmielowiec hit a driving layup and a free throw. Goia followed with two layups and the lead was 19 with just over five minutes to play.

Rochester hosts Case Sunday at 1 pm. Case defeated UAA leader Carnegie Mellon, 72-69, in Pittsburgh tonight.

This was Rochester’s 2000th game in school history. This is the 105th season of Rochester basketball.
