Rensselaer came out firing in the first half jumping out to a 23-point lead (32-12) late in the first half and they held a 17-point advantage heading into the break. Lyons led all scorers in the first half tallying 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
In the second half the Red Hawks continued to extend its lead. Led by Coleman, who shot 5-of-10 in the game, Rensselaer went up as much as 23 points again late in the game.
In addition to her 13 points, Lyons posted two rebounds with one block and one steal in 19 minutes. Coleman added four rebounds (1 offensive), while freshman forward Elizabeth Barker (Springfield, MA/Cathedral) chipped in with 11 rebounds (5 offensive), four points and one steal in the victory.
The Golden Knights were led by freshman guard Monica Thomas (Sandwich, MA/Sanwich) who had a game-high 14 points, with six rebounds. Junior forward Sarah Wesner (Sidney, NY/Sidney) added 10 rebounds (5 offensive), seven points, two assists and five steals.
Rensselaer returns to action tomorrow when it hosts Liberty League foe St. Lawrence (Saturday) at Robison Gym. Game time is 2pm. Clarkson is back in action Saturday when it travels to Vassar (2pm).
