Millsaps 89, DePauw 83

JACKSON, Miss. — DePauw dropped to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following an 89-83 loss at Millsaps. The Majors improved to 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the SCAC.

DePauw led by as many as eight in the first half at 18-10 before the Majors came back to tie the contest at 39-39 at the intermission. Millsaps grabbed a 70-59 lead with 9:45 left in the second half after a pair of free throws by Edrick Montgomery.

The Tigers still trailed by eight at 85-77 before Mike Moore nailed a three-pointer with 1:04 remaining to close the margin to five. Tyler Warren hit one of two free throws before Moore completed a three-point play with 53 seconds left to close the Millsaps lead to 86-83.

Rodney Rogan hit two free throws with 26.7 seconds left to make it 88-83 and the Tigers missed a three-pointer on their next possession before Deonte Oscar hit one of two free throws with 15 seconds left to seal the win.

Moore led the Tigers with 20 points followed by Alex Stewart and Stephen Schott with 14 apiece and Austin Brown with 13. Brown added career highs of eight rebounds and six assists in the loss.

Warren and Montgomery each scored 19 to pace the Majors, while Rogan added 16. Lorenzo Bailey and Allen Odum each scored 10.

The Tigers shot a season-high 63.8 percent from the field including 66.7 in the first half, while the Majors hit 54.2 percent for the game and 61.5 percent in the second half. DePauw outrebounded Millsaps 28-19, but committed 16 turnovers to just nine for the Majors.

DePauw travels to Oglethorpe on Sunday for a 1 p.m. meeting with the Stormy Petrels. Millsaps hosts Rose-Hulman on Sunday at noon CST.
