The Alfred University men’s basketball team fell to Nazareth 89-74 in Alfred’s Empire 8 Conference home opener on Friday evening.
The Saxons (7-7, 1-2 Empire 8) were down by nine points at the half and were never able to regain their loss. Nazareth outrebounded Alfred 43-32 and shot 53 percent from the field as Alfred shot 45 percent.
Junior forward Dillon Stein led the Saxons with a double-double. Stein scored a team high 18 points and had 10 rebounds. Senior guard Ryan Hallet scored 16 points to go along with two assists. Senior forward Todd Dersham netted 13 points as senior guard Quentin Bryant added 10 points and three assists.
Nazareth (5-9, 2-1 Empire 8) was paced by Kyle Nelson who had a game high 26 points and eight boards. Joe Canori netted 22 points as both Ryan McAdam and Tyler Smith added 11 points each.
