The Indians' 40 assists passed the previous mark of 36 set in a triple-overtime matchup with Colorado College in 1997. The 16 3-point buckets tied the record set in 2000 against Howard Payne and the combination of the Indians and Tornadoes’ score of 250 passed the record set in 1986 against Schreiner.
The record for points in a game is 140, a mark set in 2000 against Howard Payne, therefore Thursday night’s contest put this year’s squad at second all-time for points in a game.
Russell Raymond set the tone early for McMurry canning his first three 3-point buckets to give the Indians an early 15-10 lead. Raymond finished with a team-high 25 points and hit seven from beyond the arc, just two off Dan Wilson’s record of nine in 1994.
Seven other Indians scored in double figures on the night and every member of the team scored. Fred Baker had 18, Alvin Stevens had 15, Finlay Brahears scored 14, Elijah Bryant had 13, Dustin Faught chipped in 11 and Brison Daily and Curtis Jones each scored 10.
Bryant and Williams led in the assist category with nine apiece and Stevens threw in seven. Rommel Colina added a game-high 12 rebounds and four points in the winning effort.
Leading 65-53 at the half, the Indians turned on the heat in the second half opening with a 17-7 run. The Indians never looked back and led by as many as 32 points. McMurry outscored the Tornadoes in the paint 64-46, got the best of second-chance opportunities scoring 20 points and dominated the fast break game outscoring Concordia 43-17.
The Indians torched the net from the floor shooting 50 of 73 for a sparkling 68.5 field goal percentage and were 16 of 30 from 3-point land.
Brandon Graves led the Tornadoes with 27 points while Joel McDonald added 25 in the losing effort.
The Indians snapped a two-game skid and moved to 9-6 overall and 8-4 in the American Southwest Conference. Concordia-Austin dropped to 3-11 and 2-10 in ASC play.
McMurry plays host to Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday at 3 p.m. The Crusaders should provide a tough matchup for the Indians. UMHB, before Thursday's games, is 10-4 overall and 9-2 in the ASC.
