After a pair of free throws by junior guard Brian Dillon (West Orange, NJ) with 4:01 left to play, the Devils took a 71-66 lead. But Mt. St. Vincent held the Devils scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Dolphins finished the contest with an 11-0 run.
In the first half, the Devils trailed 9-3 early on, but used a 22-3 run to take a 25-12 lead with 8:21 left in the first period. Mt. St. Vincent was able to catch up, using an 11-2 run of their own over the next 3:14 to cut the Devils’ lead to three points. The Devils’ lead remained a three-point advantage at the half, 34-31.
On the night, senior guard Matt Cushing (Ocean, NJ) scored 11 points. Freshman guard Ryan McPherson (West Orange, NJ) also chipped in 11 markers, shooting 4-for-5 from the floor, including a 3-for-3 performance from behind the three-point line.
For the Dolphins, Derek Charlton recorded game-highs with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Tim Biolsi added 15 points.
FDU will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to play conference foe King’s. Tipoff will be at 3:00 pm.
