— MEN'S BASKETBALL ... Titans Top Warhawks in OT



The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh defeated UW-Whitewater 68-67 in overtime in the Kachel Gym of Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin Wednesday evening.

Oshkosh built a seven point lead in the first half, but the score at intermission was 32-31 in favor of the Titans. Whitewater took its first lead of the second half on the first basket of the half, a layup by Melvin Williams at 19:48, and increased that margin to seven, 51-44 at 7:00. Oshkosh regained the lead, up 62-59, but UW-W senior guard Melvin Williams hit a three-pointer with seven seconds left to send it into overtime. The lead changed hands twice in overtime, and Whitewater led 67-64 on a three by junior forward Mike Toellner. Junior guard Chad Doedens made a short jumper to cut it to 67-66 at 1:55, and senior forward Andy Jahnke made a pair of free throws with 1:08 for the winning margin. Whitewater had two more possessions, but failed to score.

Jahnke was the leading scorer in the game with 19 points, and teammate Kerry Gibson, junior center, added 14, and junior forward Jim Capelle had 12 and Doedens 10 for UW-O. Whitewater was led by senior guard Jeremy Manchester's 15 points, followed by junior forward Rob Perry with a season high 14. Williams was also in double figures with 12.

It was the second consecutive time the teams played into extra periods. Oshkosh also won in OT, 97-92, January 26, 2005 in Kachel Gym.

Oshkosh is now 13-4 overall, 6-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-W is 11-4, and also 6-2 in the WIAC.

The next game for the Warhawks will be Wednesday, January 25 with UW-La Crosse visiting Kachel Gym for a 7:00 tipoff.
