However, JWU's Brian Fernandes later connected on two of his 15 points with 1:03 remaining giving JWU a 75-71 lead. Unfortunately for JWU, Suffolk's Brian Small (Stoughton, MA) answered with a three-point shot with 44 seconds on the clock cutting the JWU lead to one at 75-74. Small was 9-16 from the field with 22 points for the night.
JWU's Brian Bannister then attempted an open shot just ten seconds later, but was unable to put JWU ahead. That shot was rebounded by Suffolk's Chris MacDonald (Brewster, MA) with 34 seconds left. Twenty seconds later, Schoonmaker hit his game winning jumper.
Bannister put up another attempt with 1 second left in the game, but the basket would not convert. Bannister finished with 24 points to lead all scorers.
