Salisbury 71, Marymount 63

SALISBURY, Md. — The Salisbury men’s basketball team, returning home Wednesday night looking for a victory, defeated the Saints of Marymount University, 71-63, at Maggs Gym. Junior forward Segun Odumeru (Riverdale, MD/Parkdale) exploded offensively, scoring a season-high 32 points on 9-of-17 shooting to lead all scorers.

Marymount held the advantage early in the first half, taking a game-high, 14-9 lead at the 10:27 mark. Salisbury fought back to keep the score close, taking a 31-28 lead into the break. The Saints held the an early second half lead, but Salisbury fought back to take the lead with 12 minutes remaining. The Sea Gulls would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game as they held on for the eight point victory.

Along with Odumeru, junior guard Ray Williams (Hanover, MD/Fort Meade) scored 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting to lead the Sea Gull attack. Williams also contributed eight rebounds and three assists on the night. Senior guard Justin Rice (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) added nine points on 3-of-11 shooting off the bench.

The Saints had three players in double figures, led by senior guard Corey Diamond (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) who recorded a double-double with 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Brandon Parker (Woodbridge, VA/DeMatha Catholic) and freshman guard Mike Gray (Alexandria, VA/St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes) scored 10 points each. Parker added four assists on the evening.

As a team, Salisbury shot 38.9% from the field (21-of-54), while Marymount shot 42.4% (25-of-59) from the field. The Sea Gulls held a slim advantage in rebounds, 38 to 33.
