The Mighty Macs had a final possession to try and win it, but Kyle Finklea missed a runner with 15 seconds to play, and despite grabbing the offensive rebound, Immaculata could not get another shot at the basket before the horn went off.
Misericordia trailed 37-32 after Lopez connected on a three-pointer with just under seven minutes remaining in the contest. The Cougars’ Corey Brown scored five consecutive points, getting two putbacks and a free throw, to pull Misericordia even with 5:35 to play. The teams then went two minutes without scoring before Baumunk hit a three-pointer from the right corner with 3:24 to play.
Eddie Ryan put the Cougars up four with one out of two free throws with 2:33 to play. Immaculata narrowed the gap to one on its next possession, as Sean Fordham hit the first of two free throws, and Julius Lopez converted the offensive rebound.
Brown’s putback with 1:26 to play extended the Cougars lead to 43-40, and Fordham again converted one of two at the line to bring the Mighty Macs back within two points. After a defensive stop, Lopez was fouled with 18 seconds to play. He made the first, but missed the second, and Misericordia’s Tony Rezykowski gave the Cougars a two-point advantage by making one of his free throws at the other end.
Brown finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds for Misericordia. Finklea had 11 for the Mighty Macs.
