The Defiance College Yellow Jackets fell to the Anderson University Ravens on Wednesday night, 57-64, at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
Anthony Pettaway led the Jackets with his first career double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Matt Laudick and Curt Croy hit for 10 and nine points, respectively. J.D. Clampitt caused fits for the Jackets, scoring 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting. DC converted just 38% of their shots and shot a dismal 3-of-22 from beyond the arc.
Despite the cold shooting, DC held a 32-29 advantage at intermission, capitalizing on Pettaway’s eight-point, nine-rebound first period. The freshman’s jumper at midway point gave the Jackets a 19-9 lead that would slip to three points when Nick Cochran hit a triple with a minute remaining.
The second half saw AU’s Clampitt hit for 12 of his points, including an eight-point run in between the 10:18 and 7:39 mark. Defiance was unable to finish, going without a field-goal for six of the last seven minutes of the game.
The Jackets drop to 8-7 on the season and 1-4 in the Heartland Conference. The Ravens are now 7-9 (2-3 HCAC).
DC will next host Hanover College in a men’s and women’s double-header beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
