Millikin had an early five point lead (11-6 at 17:44) when the Vikings went on a 24-12 run over the next nine minutes to grab a 30-23 lead with 8:09 left in the first half. Harrigan scored seven points in that stretch. Augustana would lead by 10 (40-30) with 2:41 remaining before settling for a nine point (44-35) lead at intermission.
In the second half Millikin scored first on a basket by Korte Long to trim the lead to seven (44-37) before the Vikings ripped off eight straight points to go up by 15 (52-37) following a basket by Harrigan with 16:17 to play. The lead would never dip below double digits again as Augustana moved its record to a glossy 15-1 overall and 5-0 in the CCIW while Millikin fell to 9-7 and 2-3.
Besides Harrigan, Dain Swetalla had 14 points, Jay McAdams-Thornton added 12, including eight in the first half when he made his first four shots and Nate Swetalla had 11. Dain Swetalla led the team in rebounding with nine and also had two assists and a blocked shot. McAdams-Thornton, Nate Swetalla and Drew Wessels all had three assists to share for the team lead in that department.
Drew Gensler led Millikin with 20 points but he missed five shots in a row during the time when Augustana was building its double digits lead in the second half. He also had four assists and four rebounds. Korte Long added 18 points and grabbed a team high nine rebounds.
The Vikings have now defeated the Big Blue in nine of the last 11 meetings and have won 58 of their last 66 home games in Carver PE Center.
