Western New England 71, Elms 43

CHICOPEE, Mass. — Elms College senior forward Danielle Dugre (Holyoke, MA) recorded a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds, but Western New England College had 11 players reach the scoring column to pull away to a 71-43 win over the Blazers in Tuesday night’s non-conference women’s basketball game at the Maguire Center.

With the win, WNEC improved to 8-4 overall. Elms College, meanwhile, lost for just the second time in its last seven games to fall to 6-5 overall.

Junior guard Christine Aldrich (Montpelier, VT) netted a collegiate career-high 16 points for the Golden Bears, who limited the host Blazers to 24.1-percent shooting in the second half to pull away from a 37-26 lead at intermission.

Junior forward Sharon Simoncelli (Litchfield, CT) scored nine points, while senior center Lisa Masella (Newtown, CT) and sophomore Jennifer Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) added eight points apiece for the Golden Bears, who outscored the Blazers 28-12 in the paint.

Elms College returns to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a weekend trip to Maine for games at Thomas College (Saturday, January 21) and Maine-Farmington (Sunday, January 22).
