BROCKPORT, NY — Senior Ben Bellucci scored 19 of his game-high 33 points in the first half as the SUNY Brockport Men’s Basketball Team jumped out to an early lead and held on for an 83-66 victory over visiting New Paltz in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game at Tuttle North Gym on Tuesday evening.

Brockport. Brockport (6-7 overall, 2-2 SUNYAC) jumped out to an 18-2 lead in the first seven minutes of the game with Bellucci scoring nine of the early points. New Paltz (4-10, 1-5) scored the next seven points to close the gap but the Golden Eagles jumped back up by 14 with seven minutes left in the half and held a 13-point advantage at the break.

Brockport took its largest lead with five minutes gone in the second half when Dan Rubertone hit a pair of free throws to give the Golden Eagles a 19-point advantage. Rubertone finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

The Hawks managed to shave 12 points off the lead and trailed by seven at 67-60 with four minutes to play. Bellucci keyed a 10-2 run over the next three minutes that put the game away. The Golden Eagles outrebounded the Hawks 49-31 and hit 16-of-20 free throws.

New Paltz went to the free throw line just six times in the game and did not attempt a free throw in the second half.
