Gustavus Adolphus 75, Macalester 60

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Adam TeBrake scored 25 of his game-high 37 points in the first half to lead Gustavus to a 75-60 MIAC win Monday night over Macalester in St. Paul. TeBrake was 14-for-19 from the field, including 4-for-6 from three-point range, as the Gusties improve to 11-3 overall and 6-3 in the MIAC. Macalester drops its fourth straight game and falls to 3-11 on the season, 2-7 in MIAC play.

Gustavus shot 53% from the field, compared to 39% for Macalester. Gustavus also enjoyed a 17-10 turnover advantage.

Phil Sowden added 13 points and four assists for the Gusties. In addition to contributing 37 points, TeBrake also had two assists, two blocked shots and two steals. Jay Stien grabbed a team high seven rebounds.

Tom Conboy had 18 points and nine rebounds to pace the Scots, while Brendan Bosman added 17 points. Jesse Hollander chipped in 11 points.

Gustavus jumped out on top 21-7 following eight minutes of play before the host-Scots got back into things with a 13-5 run to get to within six points at 26-20 with 6:56 remaining in the first half. From that point until the intermission, however, the Gusties out-scored the Scots 16-6, getting 13 from TeBrake during this decisive rally, to go up 42-28 at the break.

The Gusties scored the first seven points of the second half to go up 49-28 and were never threatened from that point on.

Macalester plays Wednesday (Jan. 18) at Augsburg, while Gustavus is home Wednesday against St. John’s.
