Leading 16-14 with 12:35 left in the opening stanza, the Violets (13-1) used a 21-7 run to take a 37-21 lead with 3:57 remaining in the first half. NYU grabbed a 46-25 lead at intermission.
The Violets jumped out to their largest lead of the contest, 58-29, with 16:29 left. However, the Hawks (2-14) went on a 16-0 run over the next 4:30 to pull within 58-45, with 12:00 remaining in the second half. Sophomore Tom White's three-pointer at 6:06 pushed the Violets lead back to 19 (75-56), but the Hawks scored the next seven points to close the gap to 12 (75-63). That was a close as Hunter would get, as NYU pulled away for an 88-73 victory.
DeCorso scored all 24 of his points in the first half, as he went 6-6 from beyond the arc. Senior Jared Kildare had his second consecutive double-double with 15 points and 11 assists. In the past two games, Kildare has collected 25 assists. He set the school record with 14 assists in the win over Brandeis University on Saturday.
Junior Jason Boone amassed 15 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks, while Matt Basford added 14 points for NYU. Junior Chael Clark totaled eight points and seven rebounds in his second start of the season.
Rommell Dolar paced the Hawks with 16 points, while Naeem Mahmood registered 13 points and six rebounds off the bench.
