Arcadia started out the game in command of the glass at both ends and jumped to a 14-3 advantage. The Eagles stormed back with an 11-0 run highlighted by two straight baskets from Matt Malloy. Arcadia held the game even for a bit, but an 8-3 run to close the half lifted the Eagles to a 33-27 lead. Sophomore Mike Johnson scored the last six points of the half on a three from the top of the key and a driving lay up and the resulting free throw.
Out of the half the Eagles built their lead to 39-29, but the Scarlet Knights chipped away at the lead to tie the game at 47 and eventually take the lead 49-47. After David Volpe hit two foul shots to tie the game at 49, Eric Elliot hit a pair of threes and Chris Feggans answered an Eastern basket with his only basket of the game from the three point line to push the Scarlet Knight advantage to seven with five minutes remaining.
Eastern was able to close the gap to three after a Bobby Black steal and bucket following two Lenny DiMaria free throws, but the host Scarlet Knights defended the arc and hit their free throws down the stretch to hold on for the eight point win. Assistant coach Lawrence Dance said of the game, "Even though it was very different from the first game, the issues are very similar to the last one. At critical times we left their shooters open and they hit shots." The Knights, led by Elliot's game high 26 points, hit on 6-11 from behind the arc in the scond half. Volpe led the Eagles with 13 points, while Johnson and DiMaria joined him in double figures with 11.
The loss drops the Eagles to 4-3 in the PAC and 9-5 overall. Eastern will have little time to dwell on the disappointment of the loss as they travel to Marywood for a must win game on Wednesday.
