NEW YORK, N.Y. — On the second day of their two-day North Eastern Athletic Conference road trip, the Cazenovia College men’s and women’s basketball teams split with the Polytechnic University Blue Jays in New York City , N.Y.

The Cazenovia women’s squad came away with its second consecutive win on Sun., Jan. 15, with a 62-46 shellacking of the Blue Jays. The win moves the Wildcats to 2-10 on the season and 2-3 in NEAC play. The Blue Jays fall to 3-8 on the season and are winless (0-3) in conference play.

The Wildcats used balanced scoring early in the game and never trailed from the opening tip.

Ashley Lewis (’07, Whitesboro / Whitesboro HS), one of four Wildcats in double-figures, led the way with a team-high 16 points on 5-for-13 shooting from the field. Lewis, who scored a game-high and season-high 22 points in the previous day’s 69-56 win over PSU Berks, capped off the win by going 4-for-5 from the free-throw line.

Forward Ashley Agresta (’06, Amsterdam / Galway HS) recorded 15 points on the day.

Blue Jay guard Kristen Partch led all scorers with a game-high 17 points. Elizabeth Clifton, who also started at guard for the Blue Jays, scored 15 points.

The Cazenovia men’s squad lost a 60-64 squeaker to the Blue Jays in the second game of the back-to-back afternoon set. With the loss the men’s team falls to 3-10 on the year and 2-3 in NEAC play. The Polytechnic men’s squad improved to 4-8 on the year and 2-2 in NEAC play.

The Wildcats, who trailed in the second half by as many as 11 points, cut the Blue Jay lead down to just two points in the final two minutes thanks to key three-pointers by Stephen Harris (’09, Watervliet / Watervliet HS) and Joshua Winans (’07, Afton / Afton HS). However, Polytechnic would seal the victory when Taheim Williams sank two free-throws with 18 seconds left in the contest.
