Hicks's basket at the 10:14 mark of the first half gave Chicago (9-5 overall, 2-1 UAA) the lead for good at 19-18. The Maroons built a 34-31 edge at the half and held a 44-43 lead with 15:28 left in the game.
Chicago then went on a 12-2 run during the next 4:04 to increase its lead to 56-45. Emory cut the deficit to 66-61 at the 3:25 mark, but could get no closer.
Jesse Meyer hit four three-point field goals and finished the game with 18 points. Meyer has made a three-point basket in 21 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Jason Vismantas and Nate Hainje each scored 11 points, while Brandon Woodhead handed out a game-high seven assists.
