DePauw 100, Sewanee 81

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The DePauw men's basketball team improved to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following a 100-81 victory over Sewanee. Sewanee dropped to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in the SCAC.


DePauw trailed briefly in the first half at 11-9, but scored eight straight and never trailed again on the way to a 56-45 halftime lead. The Tigers scored the first six points of the second half and Sewanee got as close as 13 with just under six minutes to play before DePauw scored eight straight to put the game away.

The Tigers shot 56.1 percent from the floor for the game and held Sewanee to just 40.3 percent including 33.3 percent in the second half.

Austin Brown led all scorers with a career-high 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting and also equaled a career high with seven rebounds in the win. Brown matched a career best with three steals and dished out four assists.

Alex Stewart followed with 16 and Matt McDonald matched career highs with 14 points and eight rebounds and blocked four shots. Ryan Werntz also notched a career high with 13 points and Brian Oilar followed with 11. Reid Sakel paced the Tigers with seven assists. DePauw held a 44-25 advantage on the boards and grabbed 16 on the offensive glass.

James Pryor led Sewanee with 17 points followed by Ben Pursell and Spencer Rowland with 13 each and Kenton Coleman with 10. Rowland and Mike Forster each grabbed five rebounds and Casey Berry dished out a game-high eight assists. Sewanee knocked down 15-of-31 three-point attempts in the loss.

DePauw travels to Millsaps on Friday, January 20, while Sewanee hosts Maryville (Tenn.) on Wednesday, January 18.
