Wesley 83, Marywood 76

DOVER, De. — Wesley College (6-7, 4-2) defeated conference opponent Marywood University (4-9, 1-5) by a final score of 83-76 in overtime, in men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Jim and Shirley Wentworth Gymnasium. With Wesley going into halftime with a 45-33 advantage, Marywood came out with a 17-6 run to start the second to pull within 1 point (51-50) of the Wolverines with 14:10 in the game. After a Nick Minor (SR, Gambrills, MD/Arundel) steal and Rashawn Johnson (FR, Selbyville, DE/Sussex Tech) basket, Wesley lengthened its lead to 69-61 with 5:26 remaining. From that point on Marywood would out-score Wesley 13-5 to help force overtime. Wesley did not help their cause by only shooting only 3-for-9 from the foul-line in the final 4:13.

Both teams were held scoreless in the overtime period, until Marywood's Josh Slee (JR, Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) hit two free-throws to give Marywood a 76-74 advantage with 1:47 remaining in the extra frame. Unfortunately for Marywood, those were the only points scored in the overtime period. Johnson quickly came down for Wesley, hitting 1 of his 3 3-pointers to give Wesley a 77-76 lead and help kick-start a 9-0 run to close the game.

Johnson led the way for Wesley scoring 34 points on 11-of-22 shooting, while adding 3 steals. Minor posted 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals in the effort. Cody White (FR, Milton, DE/Sussex Tech) added 10 points and 10 rebounds and Tyrell Brown (JR, Randallstown, MD/Randallstown) had a game-high 12 rebounds for the Wolverines. Tim Smallwood (SR, Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) led Marywood with 21 points. Wesley shot 26-of-60 (43.3%) from the field for the game and forced 22 Marywood turnovers. The win is Wesley's third straight victory.
