Wentworth 75, Eastern Nazarene 52

BOSTON, Mass. — Sophomore guard Ed Bolton (Silver Springs, Md.) scored 16 points and dished out five assists, while freshman guard Todd Doyle (Mystic, Conn.) came off the bench to score 16 points on 7-for-8 shooting as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men’s basketball team rolled to a 75-52 win over Eastern Nazarene in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Tansey Gymnasium.

The first half saw a back-and-forth affair with neither team leading by more than four points. However, with the score tied at 19-all, the Leopards went on a 12-4 run over a span of 3:25 to take a 31-23 lead, which included back-to-back three pointers from Bolton and freshman guard Brad Bryant (Livermore, Maine). The Crusaders would trim the lead to four (33-29) with 3:06 left on a layup from junior guard Dave Chrisos (Brewer, Maine), but Wentworth scored the last six points of the half to take a 39-29 lead after the first 20:00. In the first half, Wentworth shot just under 52 percent from the floor and was 6-for-8 from three-point land.

After scoring the first four points of the second half on baskets from Bolton and junior forward Bryan Gaine (Braintree, Mass.) to take a 14-point lead, Eastern Nazarene would get the lead back to 10 on back-to-back layups from freshman forward Dan Shaw (Northfield, Vt.) and sophomore forward Luc Jasmin (Pawtucket, R.I.). That would be the closest Eastern Nazarene would come as Wentworth used a 10-2 run to take an 18-point (53-35) lead and break the game open.

In addition to Bolton and Doyle, Gaine chipped in with 11 points, while sophomore guard Sherrad Prezzie-Blue (Norwalk, Conn.) had eight points and three steals. For the Crusaders, Shaw had 12 points and six rebounds, while Jasmin and freshman forward Tristan Shields (Mason, N.H.) added 10 apiece.

With the win, Wentworth improves to 8-4 overall and remains unblemished at 4-0 in the CCC. Eastern Nazarene sees its record fall to 1-12 overall and 1-4 in league play. Both teams are back in action Tuesday night with the Leopards continuing league play at Nichols, while the Crusaders host Newbury in a non-league contest.
