Gordon 57, University of New England 46

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Jon Marstaller '08 (Naples, Maine) tallied a game-high 18 points to lead Gordon College to its fourth consecutive victory, a 57-46 decision over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

The win improved the Fighting Scots' overall mark to 9-3, while upping their Commonwealth Coast Conference record to 4-1. The Nor'easters dropped their third straight to fall to 4-8 overall, 0-4 in league play.

Down 39-38 with 7:19 remaining, the Fighting Scots claimed the lead for good on a bucket by Marstaller with 6:55 to play. Gordon outscored UNE 17-7 the rest of the way, executing its offense well to hit several field goal attempts late in the shot clock.

Michael Herr '07 (Lampeter, Pa.) chipped in with 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds for the winners, while John Beebe '06 (Clive, Iowa) netted 10 points.

Gordon took good care of the basketball, turning it over just 10 times. The Fighting Scots also shot 40 percent (6-for-15) from beyond the 3-point arc.

Isaac Stickney '08 (Rumford, Maine) scored 13 points to lead the way for the Nor'easters. Matt McManus '06 (Cumberland, R.I.) was limited to five field goal attempts but ended with 11 points, thanks to a 7-for-8 performance from the free throw line.

The Nor'easters will look to end their losing skid on Tuesday in a home contest with Endicott College at 8:00 p.m. Gordon plays a road game at Mount Ida College on Wednesday.
