UW-Stout 77, UW-Whitewater 55

Women’s Basketball … Stout Defeats Whitewater



UW-Stout defeated UW-Whitewater 77-55 Saturday afternoon in a game played at Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie, Wisconsin.

Whitewater’s only lead game came at 18:52 left in the first half of the game on a jumper by Jessica Wendt (jr, G, Greenfield/Whitnall), making the score 4-3. Stout took back the lead for the rest of the game with 17:47 left in the first half on a three pointer by Molly Hendricks (sr, F, Blaine, MN). Stout’s largest lead came in the second half on a three pointer by Lindsey Geissler (so, G, Thorp) with 17:36 left in the game, making the score 43-17. UW-W cut the margin to ten with the aid of a 17-1 run, making it 44-34. Senior guard Amy Morris (Johnsburg, IL) had seven points, a three and two jumpers, to lead the comeback.

Morris led UW-W with 14 points, with Lindsey Buechner (so, C, Cross Plains/ Middleton) added 11 points and Wendt 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Trisha Thill (so, Belguim/Ozaukee) shared the game lead with five assists. The Blue Devils were led by junior center Kelly Duoss (Janesville/Clinton) and Savanah Oeltjen (jr, G, Spring Valley, MN) with 20 points apiece. Duoss tied Wendt with 12 rebounds and also blocked seven shots. Hendricks dished out five assists for UW-S.

Stout shot 52% (25-48) while UW-W shot 29% (20-68). Stout also hit 5-9 three-pointers, and UW-W shot 3-16 (19%) from beyond the arc. UW-Whitewater had 23 free throw attempts in the game, which Stout equaled in the second half alone (they were 22-34 in the game).

The next contest for the Warhawks will be Wednesday, January 18th in Oshkosh at 7:00 pm. Whitewater’s next home game will be Saturday, January 28th against the Blue Devil’s from UW-Stout in Kachel Gym of the Williams Center at 3:00 pm. The Warhawks are now 9-7 overall and 3-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-Stout improves to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in the league.
