Maine Farmington led 33-27 following a three-pointer by sophomore Matt St. John (Wayne, Maine/Maranacook) with 2:33 remaining in the first half, but a layup by junior Doug Williams (Ellicot City, Md./St. Mary’s) capped off a 10-2 Mustangs run to give the hosts a 37-35 advantage at the break. Williams sparked Mount Ida with ten first half points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting from the floor.
The Beavers led by as many as six points in the second half and maintained a four-point edge (63-59) with 8:37 remaining in regulation. From there it was all Mustangs, as Mount Ida outscored the visitors 26-13 down the stretch to hand the Beavers their first Conference loss of the season.
Williams finished with 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor off the bench for Mount Ida. The Mustangs also received solid production from classmate Andreas Vasiliu (Newton, Mass./Newton North), who totaled 15 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Mike Dunham (Salem, N.H./Salem) added nine points and a game-high seven assists, while freshman Otis Thompson (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) rounded things out with an 11-point, nine-rebound performance for the hosts.
St. John connected on four treys en route to a 19-point afternoon for Maine Farmington. Senior Travis Magnusson (Thomaston, Maine/Georges Valley) racked up 16 points, six assists and four steals, while classmate Travis Carrier (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) notched a double-double on ten points and ten boards for the Beavers.
Mount Ida (2-11, 1-4 NAC) returns to action tomorrow, when it hosts Thomas College for a Conference clash beginning at 1:00 p.m. Maine Farmington (6-4, 2-1 NAC) travels to Husson College for a league game on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
