UMHB built a 37-28 halftime lead after shooting 52 per cent from the field and 55 per cent from beyond the arc in the first half. The Crusaders led by as many as points before a late TLU rally cut it to nine points. UMHB then scored 10 of the first 14 points in the second half to stretch the lead to 15 points and TLU would not close the gap to less than 13 points the rest of the way. UMHB shot 49 per cent from the field for the game and hit 10-20 from three-point range. Texas Lutheran shot just 36 per cent from the field and was only 8-27 from long range in the loss.
Justin Schwartz led UMHB with 15 points as he hit 4-7 from three-point range. Patrick Oliver added 12 points and seven rebounds. The Crusaders also got points from eight other players in a balanced scoring effort. Nate Walton led TLU with 13 points off the bench and Will Hudson had 12 points for the Bulldogs.
The Crusaders will hit the road for a two-game swing through Abilene next week. UMHB will take on Hardin-Simmons University in a 7:30 PM start on Thursday before facing McMurry University in a 3:00 PM tip-off on Saturday.
