GROVE CITY, Pa. — Three Yellow Jacket players scored in double figures, led by a game-high 17 from junior guard Beau Wilson, as Waynesburg registered a 70-60 victory at Grove City on Saturday for its first conference win of the season. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in league play, while the Wolverines are even in the conference at 1-1 and stand at 5-10 overall.PrAC Waynesburg Yellow Jackets

After trailing for the first portion of the opening half by merely one or two possessions, Waynesburg tied the scored at 20-20 with 11:34 remaining on a lay-up from junior reserve Jeff Linden. The bucket by the junior triggered a 17-5 run over a five-plus minute stretch for the Yellow Jackets, who seized a 37-25 lead with the run. Guard Marc Lodovico scored all seven of his first-half points during that span when the Waynesburg defense forced five turnovers.
The Yellow Jackets converted 11 first-half Wolverine turnovers into 18 points, as they finished the half with a 45.7 field-goal percentage. The Wolverines made 17-of-26 attempts (65.4 percent) in the first half and cut the 12-point Waynesburg lead to six points at halftime, 43-37, with nine first-half points from Shawn Carr.
Grove City continued its hot shooting early in the second period, tying the score at 43-43 with 18:04 to play before Waynesburg gained the lead on the ensuing possession on a bucket by Lodovico. The Yellow Jackets expanded their lead to double-digits, 55-45, with almost 10:56 remaining after mounting a 10-2 run, including a tip-in by sophomore Josh Parisi, who finished the game with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Wolverines closed the deficit to two points with 4:39 left on a lay-up from Ryan Gerber. The Yellow Jackets continued responded by making the next four field goals including a three-pointer by Wilson that made the score 64-57 with 2:26 remaining.
Wilson finished with a game-high 17 points, six stealas and five assists.
After shooting an astounding 65 percent in the first half, Grove City was limited to a 33.3 field-goal percentage in the second half and finished with a the game making half its shots (25 of 50).
WC, who forced 23 turnovers in the win, claimed its first victory in the Grove City College Arena since January 31, 1998. The Yellow Jacket win also snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Wolverines.
Waynesburg continues conference play on Monday, Jan. 16, when it plays host to Thiel College for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. The Yellow Jackets split the season series with the Tomcats last year, winning 83-63 in Greenville, Pa., behind 22 points from Parisi.
