With the win, Bridgewater State head coach Bridgett Casey ties Bo Ruggiero (1982-87) as the all-time winningest coach in BSC women’s basketball history. In nine seasons at Bridgewater, Coach Casey has a career record of 108-108 (.500). Bridgewater improves to 10-3 overall and a 2-0 in the MASCAC. The Rams fall to 4-7 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
The Bears put the game out of reach with a 28-0 run to end the first half. Framingham did not score a point over the final 9:17 of the opening stanza as BSC led 47-13 heading to the break. Bridgewater would score the first four points of the second half as they held the Rams scoreless for over 12 minutes (12:21).
Along with Murphy, the Bears had three other players in double figures. Sophomore guard Caitlin Feeney (Providence, RI) scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting while also adding 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Senior forward Samantha Curry (Braintree, MA) finished with 13 points, 9 boards and 3 blocks, while sophomore guard Justine Farroba (North Attleboro, MA) added 10 points on perfect 3-for-3 shooting.
BSC shot an impressive 61% (19-for-31) in the first half while holding Framingham to 17% (5-for-29) shooting in the half and 20% (10-for-50) for the game. The Bears also registered a season-high 11 blocked shots led by Curry and senior forward Natasha Sepe (Cranston, RI) with three apiece.
Framingham was led by sophomore forward Robin Morrow (Needham, MA) who scored 20 out of the teams 36 points and also added 9 rebounds.
The Bears are back in action on Monday afternoon as they travel to North Adams to take on MASCAC rival Mass. College of Liberal Arts. Tip-Off is scheduled for 2 PM. Framingham returns home to take on Worcester State on Tuesday at 5:30.
