Junior guard Ryan Dacey (Pembroke, MA) hit the game-winning shot with 11 seconds left in the game to give the Rams the dramatic victory. With the win, Framingham improves to 7-5 on the season and remains perfect in the MASCAC with a 2-0 conference mark. Bridgewater drops to 6-6 overall and 0-2 in MASCAC play.
Trailing 66-61 with two minutes to go, BSC junior forward Derek Thompson (Hyannis, MA) scored four unanswered points for the Bears on a basket and two free throws to cut the lead to 66-65 with 58 seconds left on the game clock. After another stop, Thompson pulled down his fifth offensive rebound of the second half and hit a layup to give BSC the 67-66 lead with 17 seconds to go.
That set the stage for Dacey who quickly pushed the ball up the court off the inbounds pass and drove to the hoop for the basket. Dacey, who also fouled on the play, missed the ensuing free throw though as the Rams led 68-67 with 11 second to go. The Bears got the rebound off the missed foul shot and quickly pushed the ball up the court. But a three-pointer at the buzzer did not find the mark as Framingham held on for the win.
Senior guard Omar Almodovar (Holyoke, MA) and junior forward Derek Wigman (Pembroke, MA) led the way for the Rams with 18 points apiece. Dacey finished with 12 points as well as 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Sophomore forward Rob Scarpato (Hopkinton, MA) also finished in double figures as he added 10 points to go along with 8 rebounds.
Thompson finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the Bears, all coming in the second half. He also scored the final 14 points of the game for BSC. Junior forward Tyler Lang (Franklin, MA) also had a big day for Bridgewater as he added 13 points, 19 rebounds, 7 blocks and 3 steals.
The Bears are back in action on Monday afternoon as they travel to North Adams to take on MASCAC rival Mass. College of Liberal Arts. Tip-Off is scheduled for 4 PM. Framingham returns home to take on Worcester State on Tuesday at 7:30.
