Trinity (10-4, 3-1) led 24-21 at the break, as both teams shot under 40% in the period. The Tigers hit over 45% in the second half, while the Stormy Petrels hit just 38.2% in the period, and 33.3% for the game. Oglethorpe connected on just 4-19 three-point shots (1-7 in the second half), while Trinity hit 7-21. The Tigers out-rebounded Oglethorpe 44-42 in the game.
James Lake led Trinity with 14 points on 6-9 shooting, connecting on 2-4 from distance and collecting six rebounds.
Andy Bates chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds, knocking back two shots and recording two steals. Ross Burt narrowly missed a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling in nine rebounds - including two clutch rebounds in the waning seconds of the game.
Oglethorpe had a shot to tie the game at the buzzer with one second left, but the shot was wide.
Jay Riola led Trinity with 11 rebounds, hitting 3-3 from the field for six points and handing out four assists. Brandon York came off the bench with a game-high six assists for the Tigers.
Eric Dickinson led all players with 16 points, while Ahmed Kareem Shaheed had 14 points and nine boards. Andrew Tulowitsky had eight points and five steals for the Petrels.
Trinity will host Millsaps on Sunday, while Oglethorpe travels to Southwestern. Trinity, Oglethorpe, and Southwestern all stand atop the conference standings with 3-1 records after Southwestern defeated Millsaps in Georgetown tonight.
