Worcester Polytech 86, Fitchburg State 64

Worcester, MA — WPI scored the first 16 points of the second half en route to an 86-64 win over visiting Fitchburg State in non conference men’s basketball action on Thursday. The Engineers, ranked 15th nationally, improved to 12-1 on the season while FSC dropped to 5-7.

Ryan Cain (Webster, MA) led three WPI players in double figures with 23 points while Antoine Coleman (Everett, MA) and Mike Prestileo (South Windsor, CT) both added 14. Point guard Brett Dickson (Bedford, NH) chipped in with 9 points and shared game-best assist honors with Cain by dishing out five helpers.

The Engineers netted a season-best 13 three-pointers on the night, including an impressive 9-of-15 in the first half. Sean Ivey (Columbia, MD) anchored the WPI defense by registering four blocks on the evening.

Dan Koen (Auburn, MA) connected on a trio of first half three-pointers to account for all of his team-high nine points for the Falcons. Peter Uzoma (Boston, MA) poured in seven points while Albert Ortiz (Fitchburg, MA) posted six points and eight rebounds.

WPI will head on the road on Saturday to face NEWMAC rival Springfield in a game starting at noon. Fitchburg State will be at Salem State on Saturday for a 5pm contest.
