McDaniel 80, Muhlenberg 72

WESTMINSTER, Md. — MBB: McDaniel 80, Muhlenberg 72

Will Talesnick scored 22 points to lead McDaniel to an 80-72 win over Muhlenberg at the Gill Center Thursday evening. The win was the first in the series for McDaniel since the 1997-98 season, snapping the Mules nine-game ownership of the series.

McDaniel also surpassed its 2004-2005 win total with the win.

After falling behind 9-0 in the first five minutes, the Terror quickly played catch-up going into the break trailing 39-36. The Terror gained the lead for good with 5:13 left in the game when Josh McKay drove the lane for a lay-up to put McDaniel ahead 63-62. A Rutland steal followed by a foul put Ryan Finch on the line. His pair of made foul shots stretched McDaniel’s lead to three.

A foul by Muhlenberg’s Tom Scott, followed by a Scott technical foul dashed any Muhlenberg comeback hopes with 33 seconds remaining. The Terror dropped in all four of its foul shots to run the lead to 80-70. A Michael Bernardini lay-up in the closing seconds delivered the final score, 80-72.

In addition to Talesnick’s 22 point effort, McDaniel got 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block from Mike Dipiero. Finch contributed 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field to go with his pair of steals and assists. McKay score nine points for the Terror.

The Green Terror bench outscored the Mules 26-4.

Muhlenberg was led by Jeff Stewart’s 25 points and 10 rebounds. Scott added 19 points to the Muhlenberg cause.
