The Bears extended their second half advantage to as much as nine points twice, but the Blue Jays were able to close the gap to 68-66, before missing on three field goal tries with less than a minute to play.
After leading 22-14 at the 7:46 mark of the first half, the Bears used a 7-0 run to trim the margin to 22-21 before outscoring Hopkins 7-2 in the final three minutes of the period to erase the lead and take a 33-31 advantage to the break.
A 53.3 percent (14-for-26) shooting performance in the second half helped the Bears take the lead for good, while Hopkins only hit on 9-of-22 (40.9%) attempts from the floor.
Ursinus got 17 points a piece from senior Brian McEvily and sophomore Nick Shattuck. Shattuck was 6-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
Hopkins saw two scorers reach the 20-point mark, as junior Danny Nawrocki delivered 22 points, while junior Matt Griffin scored 20. Griffin pulled in a career-high 10 rebounds for his first career double-double.
Hopkins failed to shoot over 50 percent for the first time in seven games, connecting on only 41.8 (23-for-55) tries from the field.
The Blue Jays are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 14, when the travel to Muhlenberg for a 2 p.m. contest.
