The game was a tightly contested affair in the first 32 minutes, but clutch shooting down the stretch by the Bearcats (13-3, 5-0 CUNYAC) helped pull out the win at York College.
York led 57-56 with 8:35 left, but Chris Williams (Atlanta, GA/South Gwinnett) ignited a three-point play on an assist by Carl Emengo (Brooklyn, NY/Canarsie) to go up, 59-57. That play started a 13-2 run to give the Bearcats a 69-59 lead with 4:09 left.
The team clinched the win with solid free throw shooting down the stretch to fend off a late comeback by the hosts.
Robi Davidson (Tel Aviv, Israel/Beverly Hills) recorded his first start and missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Louie Karis (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) led the way with 21 points, including 9-of-9 from the free throw line. He also dished out four assists and grabbed five rebounds.
Cheick Fadika (Abidjan, Ivory Coast/Petit) had a strong defensive game with five blocks and six rebounds.
Jeffrey Boone (Queens, NY/August Martin) led York with 16 points and seven rebounds.
The men's basketball team will be in action this Friday with a 7:30 p.m. conference home game against City Tech.
