W&L (2-9, 2-4 ODAC) led for much of the first seven minutes before EMU (7-6, 3-4 ODAC) took a lead it would not relinquish at the 12:45 mark of the first half. The Royals took an 11-point lead into the break at 51-40. EMU built the lead as large as 19 at 74-55 with 8:41 to go. The Generals got no closer than eight the rest of the way.
The teams combined for 65 fouls in the game, 81 foul shots, and each shot 50% from the floor. EMU made 4-of-13 three-point attempts and went 32-of-42 from the charity stripe. W&L made 4-of-11 three-pointers and went 28-for-39 from the line. EMU forced 24 W&L turnovers compared to just 12 committed by the Royals. EMU also had a season-best 26 assists.
Sophomore guard Brad Parkes (Winchester, Va.) led EMU with a season-high 21 points along with six boards and three assists. Senior forward E.J. Arrington (Staunton, Va.) had 18 points. Sophomore guard Korey Whiting (Stafford, Va.) had 17 points, a career-best eight assists, and two steals while junior forward Jason Sager (Edinburg, Va.) also had 17 points and five boards. Junior center Jason Lentz (Diana, W.Va.) chipped in 10 points and six boards off the bench. Senior guard Dustin Galyon (Sterling, Kan.) had a career-high seven assists.
W&L was led by sophomore forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J.) who had his second double-double of the season with 18 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. He also had three assists and three blocks. Junior guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla.) also had 18 points while sophomore guard John Mumper (Richmond, Va.) added 17 points and five assists.
EMU will hit the road Saturday for a 2 p.m. ODAC contest at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.
