While Stout (11-4, 4-2) made only 21-of-61 shots from the floor, they also didn't help their cause, missing several free throws down the stretch as they did manage to pull to within five points. Stout hit only 14-of-25 free throws for the game, only 10-of-19 in the second half.
Meanwhile, River Falls (3-11, 2-4) were a house afire in the first half, draining six 3-pointers and shooting 14-of-27 in the stanza. Hans Hoeg led the Falcons' charge, nailing three consecutive 3-pointers, scoring 13 points in each half to finish with a game-high 26 points. River Falls stretched the lead to as much as 17 points before Stout whittled the score to within striking range, staying around the 7-, 8-, 9-point range, but could never get over the proverbial hump.
The loss was Stout's third straight after a 10 game winning streak. The Falcons, in contrast, snapped a three game losing streak.
Terry Farmer was Stout's leading scorer with 10 points and seven rebounds. John Nonemacher came off the bench to pull down a game-high and career-best 12 rebounds.
