UW-Oshkosh 67, UW-La Crosse 65

Oshkosh, Wis. — The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team rallied and then hung on for a 67-65 victory over UW-La Crosse on Wednesday in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-La Crosse (12-3/3-3 WIAC) led 58-48 with 10:39 remaining in the game before UW-Oshkosh (11-4/4-2 WIAC) went on a 13-2 scoring run to take a 61-60 lead with 4:26 to play. UW-Oshkosh's 61-60 lead was its first advantage since holding a 14-13 lead a the 13:12 mark of the first half.

The Titans held a 67-62 advantage with 1:12 remaining before Marcus Conigliaro hit a three-pointer with 48 seconds left to cut the Eagles' deficit to 67-65. After a Titans' missed three-point field goal attempt, Conigliaro missed a potential game-winning three-pointer at the final buzzer.

UW-La Crosse scored the last six points to take a 37-30 lead at intermission. The Eagles led the final 12:59 of the opening period after taking a 15-14 lead. UW-La Crosse shot 55.6 percent (15-27) from the field in the first half and turned the basketball over just four times.

UW-Oshkosh had three double-figure scorers in the game as Jim Capelle counted 18 points, Andy Jahnke 15 and Kerry Gibson 12. Capelle also grabbed seven rebounds in the contest, while Gibson collected eight rebounds, blocked five shots and dished off four assists.

Joe Werner led UW-La Crosse with 15 points and six rebounds, while Conigliaro added 14 points and Chris Fehrenbach 13.

UW-Oshkosh, which has won 114 of its last 141 home games, concluded the contest shooting 41.8 percent (23-55) from the field. The Titans also shot 44.4 percent (8-18) behind the three-point line and 86.7 percent (13-15) from the free throw stripe.

UW-La Crosse, which had won its previous eight road games, finished the hardwood debate shooting 48.1 percent (26-54) from the field. The Eagles also shot 50 percent (6-12) behind the three-point arc and 100 percent (7-7) from the free throw line.

UW-Oshkosh won the rebounding battle, 30-27. Both teams had just seven turnovers.
