Salisbury 88, Goucher 70

SALISBURY, Md. — The Salisbury men’s basketball team (8-5, 2-1 CAC), following a 1-1 performance at the Great Ships Invitational, returned home Wednesday to defeat Goucher College (0-12, 0-3 CAC), 88-70. Junior forward Segun Odumeru (Riverdale, MD/Parkdale) scored a team-high 27 points to lead the Sea Gulls to victory.

The Sea Gulls jumped out early against Goucher, scoring the first seven points. From that point forward, Salisbury routed Goucher, amassing a 28-point 48-21 lead at halftime. Odumeru led the Sea Gulls with 16 points at the break.

In the second half, Salisbury eclipsed a 30-point lead several times, including a game-high 33 points five times in the half. Goucher used the three-point shooting of junior guard James Russo (Cockeysville, MD/Dulaney) and senior guard Jonathan Garritt (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) to decrease the lead, but it was not enough en route to Salisbury’s 18-point victory.

Odumeru shot 11-of-15 from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the three-point arc. Senior forward Kyle Harmon (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) added 13 points and eight rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting. Senior Justin Rice (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) and junior Rico Stewart (Arlington, VA/Washington & Lee) contributed from the bench. Rice scored 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting, while Stewart scored 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting.

Russo led the Gophers with 27 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including 6-of-11 from three-point range. Garritt scored 25 points on 8-of-19 shooting. Garritt was also sharp from three-point range, hitting five of seven shots. Russo added six rebounds in the losing cause.

Salisbury shot 45.3% (34-of-75) from the field, while Goucher shot 33.3% from the field (22-of-66). Salisbury edged Goucher in rebounding, 50 to 42.
