William Paterson 54, Ramapo 51

1/11/06 — WILLIAM PATERSON OUTSCORED RAMAPO,
14-1 IN FINAL NINE MINUTES TO TAKE GAME,
54-51 IN NJAC ACTION

MAHWAH, NJ (Jan. 11, 2006) - Sophomore guard Jason Cameron (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) scored a career-high 22 points, including the go-ahead free throws with 1:01 remaining, as William Paterson overcame a 10-point deficit in the final 8:50 and defeated New Jersey Athletic Conference rival Ramapo, 54-51, Wednesday night at the Bill Bradley Center.

Cameron scored 17 of his points in the second half for the Pioneers (10-3, 5-2 NJAC), who won their seventh straight by holding the Roadrunners (9-4, 3-4 NJAC) to no field goals and just one point over the final 8:44 after sophomore guard Ahmad Mosby (Jersey City, NJ/St. Anthony) drained a 3-pointer to give his team a 50-40 lead.

Senior forward Todd Lowber (Riverside, NJ/Delran) led Ramapo with 20 points and Mosby added 11 in the loss.

William Paterson held a 20-16 lead with 5:59 left in the first half before Lowber poured in eight of his 16 first-half points to help the Roadrunners seize a 29-26 halftime lead. William Paterson forged three second-half ties, but did not move into the lead until Cameron converted a pair of free throws with 1:01 remaining to help the Pioneers overcome an evening of free-throw futility as they shot just 47.4 percent (18-of-38). Ramapo, which committed 30 turnovers, hit 51.6 percent (16-of-31) at the line.

Overall, both teams combined for 55 turnovers -- 30 for Ramapo and 25 for William Paterson -- while each shot 29.4 percent (15-of-51) from the floor.

Ramapo returns to action Saturday, Jan. 14, when it travels to NJAC rival Rowan for a 3 p.m. contest. William Paterson resumes play the same day and time at home against league foe New Jersey City.
