Early in this game, Hunter jumped out to an early 7-2 lead. However, the Lightning quickly struck back to tie the game at 9-9. After a timeout,
Hunter’s John Patrick Swift led the charge by nailing two consecutive three-pointers that contributed to an 8-0 run, which gave the Hawks a 17-9 lead with 13:35 remaining in the half. The teams exchanged baskets until Lehman’s Kyle Lockett (White Plains, NY/Alexander Hamilton) converted on four three-pointers and gave the Lightning a 44-40 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Hawks battled to get within eight points with under 10 minutes to play. However, Lehman’s Franky Gedeon and Sekani Francis (Bronx, NY/Kennedy) held off Hunter’s charge and helped lead the Lightning
to the win.
The Hawks, 2-12 overall (1-4 CUNY), were led by sophomore Naeem Mahmood (Montville, NJ/Montville Township) with 19 points and Nelson Pierre (Brooklyn, NY / Prospect Heights) with 13 points and nine rebounds. Swift and sophomore Brian Morris (Rockaway Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Gedeon led Lehman, 6-8 overall (3-2 CUNY), with 19 points and six rebounds off the bench and Francis recorded a double-double, 17 points and 14 rebounds.
