The Crusaders move their record to 6-7, 3-4 in the conference, while the Student Princes fall to 6-8, 2-5 in the OAC.
Heidelberg was red-hot in the first half, shooting 58% from the floor and held a double-digit lead for most of the first period as they went into the locker room with a 47-32 lead. A 13-2 run at the outset of the game gave the Student Princes a 17-8 advantage at the 16 minute mark.
Capital slowly cut the 15 point halftime deficit into single digits and then tied the game at 66 with 6:17 left to play. The lead went back and forth throughout the second half as a free throw shot by freshman guard Ryan Wood gave Capital an 83-81 lead with 11 seconds to play, however Heidelberg's Ron Higgins hit a layup as time ran out in regulation to tie game at 83 and send the contest into overtime.
Again the lead changed hands a number of times during the overtime period with the Student Princs holding a 93-91 advantage with 11 seconds to play before Stahl pulled off his heroics.
The 6-6 freshman guard hit a career-high six three-pointers in the win, going 8-12 from the field and 3-4 from the line to give him his 25 points. Stahl's performance took away some of the luster of sophomore guard Matty Owens career-high 16 markers, while sophomore forward Brad Buckner tallied 13 and Wood ended with 12 off the bench.
Six different players scored in double-figures for the Student Princes led by Higgins 17.
Capital's win builds some momentum going into a showdown on Saturday with crosstown rival Otterbein. Tip-off for the game is set for 1 p.m.
